چکیده

Recently, multiresolution visualization methods have become an indispensable ingredient of real-time interactive postprocessing. The enormous databases, typically coming along with some hierarchical structure, are locally resolved on different levels of detail to achieve a significant savings of CPU and rendering time. Here, the method of adaptive projection and the corresponding operators on data functions, respectively, are introduced. They are defined and discussed as mathematically rigorous foundations for multiresolution data analysis. Keeping in mind data from efficient numerical multigrid methods, this approach applies to hierarchical nested grids consisting of elements which are any tensor product of simplices, generated recursively by an arbitrary, finite set of refinement rules from some coarse grid. The corresponding visualization algorithms, e.g., color shading on slices or isosurface rendering, are confined to an appropriate depthfirst traversal of the grid hierarchy. A continuous projection of the data onto an adaptive, extracted subgrid is thereby calculated recursively. The presented concept covers different methods of local error measurement, time-dependent data which have to be interpolated from a sequence of key frames, and a tool for local data focusing. Furthermore, it allows for a continuous level of detail.

Dual multiresolution HyperSlice for multivariate data visualization

We present a new multiresolution visualization design which allows a user to control the physical data resolution as well as the logical display resolution of multivariate data. A system prototype is described which uses the HyperSlice representation. The notion of space projection in multivariate data is introduced. This process is coupled with wavelets to form a powerful tool for very large d...

h{p{MULTIRESOLUTION VISUALIZATION OF ADAPTIVE FINITE ELEMENT SIMULATIONS

We propose an appropriate and eÆcient multiresolution visualization method for so called h{p{adaptive nite element data. This is done by generalizing the method of adaptive projection, recently introduced by the authors, to function data of piecewise higher polynomial degree on locally re ned grids. Given some suitable error indicators, we eÆciently extract a continuous h{p{adaptive projection ...

Adaptive Anisotropic Spectral Stochastic Methods for Uncertain Scalar Conservation Laws

This paper deals with the design of adaptive anisotropic discretization schemes for conservation laws with stochastic parameters. A Finite Volume scheme is used for the deterministic discretization, while a piecewise polynomial representation is used at the stochastic level. The methodology is designed in the context of intrusive Galerkin projection methods with Roe-type solver. The adaptation ...

A data model for adaptive multi-resolution scientific data

Representing data using multiresolution is a valuable tool for the interactive exploration of very large datasets. Current multiresolution tools are written specifically for a single kind of multiresolution data. As a step toward developing general purpose multiresolution tools, we present here a model that represents a wide range of multiresolution data within a single paradigm. In addition, o...

Multiresolution Volume Filtering in the Tensor Compressed Domain

Signal processing and filter operations are important tools for visual data processing and analysis. Due to GPU memory and bandwidth limitations, it is a challenge to apply complex filter operators to large-scale volume data interactively. We propose a novel and fast multiscale compression-domain volume filtering approach integrated into an interactive multiresolution volume visualization frame...
